So my wife tells me of a recent visit to The Famous Christmas Store.  You know, the one place you can go to get anything and everything having to do with Christmas.  They have everything.  They have Christmas gnomes.  They have Christmas ribbons.  They have garland, bows, boxes, xmas lights, replacement lights, xmas light testers, poinsettia’s, little glowy snowmen, Christmas florals, treetop stars and angels, ornaments, wreaths, Christmas trees, Christmas tree holders and skirts, rope lights, decorations, candles, nutcrackers, crafts, fiber optic santas, novelties, Christmas snowglobes, stockings, wrapping paper, tape, paper cutters, gift boxes, gift bags, holiday napkins, inflated yard decorations, Santa plate for cookies and milk, holiday cocoa mugs, Christmas cards, calendars, generic gifts, money holders, bells, feathers, toy soldiers, nativity scenes, glitter, advent calendars, wireframe reindeer, gold, frankincense and myrhh, cracker boxes, Christmas Carol lyrics, scarves, egg nog recipes, champagne buckets, flutes, ice brances, berries, doves, holiday potpourri, Christmas music CD’s, Mannheim Steamroller DVD’s, grapevine wreaths, lavendar, satin, silk flowers, fruit baskets, stars, and menorahs.

Oh wait.  They don’t have ornament hooks.

What?

Ornament Hooks

That’s right, they don’t carry ornament hooks.  They just don’t have ‘em.  So when they asked someone who worked there “Could you tell me where to find ornament hooks”, the person responded with condecending attitude and demeaner, coupled with a curt response of “No, we don’t carry ornament hooks, and we never have” and walked away.  Her manner was as if she was offended that she’d be even be asked about ornament hooks.  The nerve!

We’re still puzzling over that — do ornament hooks somehow imply a cheap ornament?  Do all the “worthy” ornaments come with their own butler to fashion a new, custom hooking device and will always be watched over with care such that it does not fall to the ground or get jostled by pets and children?  Is there some ghetto reference to ornament hooks of which I’m totally unaware?

Oh where, oh where are the ornament hooks?
Oh WHERE, oh where can they be?
I *tried*… to go… and pick me some up;
To MAKE them hang on my tree…

Oh yeah, another thing.  They don’t carry Mistletoe.

What?

And lo, the people did comment thus:

Forget em’ at the Famous Christmas Store. Ah, it’s fun to create your own!

    Materials:
Copper Craft Wire Roll from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby
    Wooden Spool
    Pliers

    1. Cut wire to 5″ lengths for each ornament hanger.
    2. Wind one end around a wooden spool to create your 1″ loop that is open slightly.
    3. Use the pliers to create an open spiral inside the loop.
    4. At the other end, make a 1″ open loop that is in the opposite direction (It will turn out like an S)
