What an absolutely fantastic movie Stardust was!
We sat and watched it last night – actually, I was very very tired and ready for bed but was convinced to stay up to watch it, and therefore my expectations were already low, thinking I’d fall asleep during the movie.
This has now become an all-time favorite movie – probably up there with The Princess Bride. It’s funny, has tons of unexpected twists without being campy, and is filled with great acting (who could ignore Robert DeNiro, Rupert Everett, Peter O’Toole, Ricky Gervais and Ian McKellen as supporting actors? What does that say about the main cast?)
I vaguely remember seeing a trailer for it once, and I don’t recall seeing it on the theatre marquee. Seems weird, given that it was such a good movie. This seems like a perfect movie to watch in a group vs alone.
Have you seen it? Have you even heard of it?

It’s in my Netflix queue and I was unsure about it until now…looking forward to it!
my boyfriend JUST said we have to watch this. he half-saw it on the plane home. how funny! we’ll definitely rent it. the princess bride is one of my favorite movies!
So, did you watch this instead of Juno?
Hilly, I think it’s a very-easy-to-enjoy movie.
Sizzle, it’s especially good for a couple to watch together. While I’ts not near as quotable as Princess Bride, it’s still full of countless little LOLs.
Poppy, heh. Given that I saw this at home and not the theatre, it wasn’t a replacement. But I’ll give Bully a try as you mentioned elsewhere.
As I suggested, watch on your OWN first. I think it’s probably too harsh a lesson.
I’ve been wanting to see Stardust since before it hit the theaters! Looking forward to it even more now! Thanks!
Is this that movie that just came out a little while ago where Michelle Pfeiffer is all weird and stuff? Like, a witch or something?
You let your kids watch a show about a witch? How pagan of you. I am surprised that the Xtians in the family didn’t put a stop to that immediately because the kids will be negatively influenced by the satanic overtones.
And would you please call me back about the stupid Cisco Router? I want to talk to you about the ASA 5000 series…
It’s based on a Neil Gaiman comic. I’m looking forward to seeing it at some point.
I’ve never heard of it. It’s that good? Princess Bride good? That’s quite a claim…
Poppy, yeah, I listen, really I do!
sourpuss, welcomes
Absurdist, yes, Michelle Pfeiffer plays a witch in it and does so very well. And yes, I let them watch it. And Harry Potter, too. I even let Jaden watch Strange Brew whenever he feels like it!
Avitable, I recall seeing that name in the credits. I generally don’t care where the stuff comes from (which is similar to my taste in hot dogs), just as long as it’s good when I consume it. And what an unfortunate name to have when growing up.
Mr Fab, hmm. I’ll avoid controversy and not claim that “it’s as good as Princess Bride.” I’ll instead say “it’s up there with Princess Bride,” but definitely not “as good as”. I mean, I can quote Princess Bride until I die of ingesting a colorless, odorless, tasteless poison. Stardust is more of a breath of fresh air in today’s movie making.
Yeah, I would say, without even seeing it, that it’s inconceivable that it’s as good as Princess Bride. That’s like starting a land war in Asia.
