I think you summed up my definitions of greed pretty well.
Greed is jealousy, envy, entitlement, narcissism, and lust all rolled up into one furious ball.
It’s also destructive.

martymankins, thank you for injecting the non-monetary aspects of greed. I had stayed mostly on the wealth aspect, but you’re right - it encompasses much more. Greed can also involve fame, food, laziness and more.

Faiqa, That is such a great comment, especially about the lack of ability/ambition part. And great use of word “conflate”!

I like the “regardless of consequences” part - that strikes true. But taking vs making is NOT irrelevant. Whether we have more than we need is what’s irrelevant.

ANYway…

Greed is taking your dream at the expense of someone else’s. It’s the idea that there isn’t enough to go around, so you’re going to make sure you get your share and then some - regardless of the consequences to anyone else.

Taking vs. making more than you need is irrelevant. We ALL have more than we “need”.
