Welcome to The blog of whall

Come on in and stay a while… laugh a little. Maybe even think. Read more...

Hi, This is Wayne. This is my site, my stuff, my blog, blahblahblah. The site itself is powered by WordPress and the Scary Little theme. I thought it was cool, and I still do.

Google has this new tool called Google Trends (which I first saw over on this post at Chris Brennan’s Astrology Site).  It lets you check out the daily/monthly/yearly trends of different searches and how popular they are over time.  For example, today’s popular searches include the shuttle landing, Cyber Monday deals, and a sonic boom.

One of the things I noticed when I started this blog was my lack of comments compared to “the big guys”.  There are all these sites out there with dozens of comments every single day, and some of them get over 50.  EVERY DAY!  I barely can even blog every day much less go out and comment on other people’s blogs to drum up interest.  What I REALLY need is a dictation / transcription system that lets me listen to blogs and comment on them with my phone.  Jott and utterz seem to be a good step in the right direction, but it’s just not there yet.

Then I got to thinking – maybe I can check Google Trends to see how popular I am compared to the big guys.

So I did a quick check of “wayne“, “dave” and “adam“.  And was I suprised!

Looks like Wayne (in blue) is gaining popularity, Dave (in red) is on the down trend and Adam (in yellow) has no change.  Yay google!

I don’t want Dave to feel bad about this, though.  I mean, when I track the relative popularity of his Arch Nemesis, Ann Coulter, it’s just about no contest whatsoever.

Ann coulter, down there in green, just can’t compare to the power of Wayne, Dave and Adam.

So look on the bright side, Dave.  At least you’re a million times more popular than Ann Coulter. 🙂

And lo, the people did comment thus:

  1. Dave2 says:

Ummm… dude… I know I go by “Dave2” on the interwebs, but my birth certificate says David, not Dave. You should re-do those trends with “David” and see where that gets you.

  2. whall says:

Wow, you’re right. “dave2” doesn’t even register! But then again, “whall” doesn’t have much either. But “David” is a King! I don’t even mean from the Old Testament…

  3. kapgar says:

I’m ready to guarantee I’m down there with Ann Coulter.

You boys have WAY too much time on your hands. 🙂

  5. Robin says:

i’m pretty sure i wouldn’t even register on there i get so few comments and they keep dwindling lately…i don’t know if i’m just boring now or if people just have better things to do…

  6. Avitable says:

But did I at least win the electoral vote?

Avitable´s last blog post..I need your help, Internets.

  7. Janna says:

If only I was as popular as Ann Coulter. But slightly less hated.

  8. Hilly says:

I tried to run against the big guns using our screenames but nothing…psssht. Anyway, this one time I did this random comparison of traffic, pitting myself against Dave and Adam…bwahahaha, I had to slam my laptop shut when I saw how tiny I am compared to those guys!

  9. Paul Walhus says:

I like the idea of being able to use a voice program to make comments, let me know if you get this working, ok?

I tried to track “Britt” and the only thing I got was “you know that’s a boy’s name, right?”

  11. whall says:

kapgar, the trick is to look for “kevin”. I hear you’re just six degrees away from something important.

Dragon Baby, don’t I wish I had more time on my hands. The amount I DO have washes off too quickly already!

Robin, I will admit, sometimes I don’t click the twitter-links because I don’t know if they’re POSTS or the mini-posts. I have a hard time staying on top of more than one post per day for most blogs I read.

Avi, I’m sorry to be the one to inform you, but you suffer from electoral dysfunction.

Janna, You get REAL popular the first month of the year, and then you’re virtually non-existent the other 11 months.

Hilly, I know, it makes me cry alone in the dark sometimes. But I’d never tell anyone that.

Paul Walhus, thanx for stopping by with the non-sequiter! I do know you’re talking about a recent utter I had about being able to catch up on blogs AND COMMENTING via voice, and I promise if I ever find a good solution, it will be blogged here.

Miss Britt, I’ve learned to stop listening to those voices.

Hey, we all want to share our voice. And I particularly love comments, especially if you took the time to read my blog entry. I'll take the time to read your comment, I swear! But due to spammers, robots, and the fact that I want my blog to be PG rated, I need to approve the comments. This should be same day, but please don't get mad if it takes me a while to approve the comment.
