I think there’s something wrong with me. Allow me to present a few key pieces of evidence.
I didn’t really enjoy Batman: Dark Knight that much.
Bale’s sinister voice seemed stretched and overdone, whats-his-name-dead-guy’s rendition of the Joker didn’t seem gifted like everyone claimed, and the movie didn’t make me oh-so-glad-I’d-seen-it like the movie Batman Begins did. But I know everyone else loved this movie. What’s wrong with me?
I loved Xanadu, Abba, August Rush and Dune.
I would expound on this some, but come on. Do I really have to?
Watchmen didn’t do much for me
This might be the biggest indicator since everyone else and their brother love this particular movie, this Watchmen. I loved the special effects; the acting was noticeably good (for an untrained observer such as myself); I didn’t get lost during the telling of the story.
I should point out that I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I went out by myself to Alamo Drafthouse (where they have every other row of seats taken out and replaced with tables and wait staff comes by and services great food/drink, and they’re hilarious) and watched a decent movie. I had a great time. Really.
But I would have had the same great time with just about any movie.
Which is my point.
And if Watchmen and Dark Knight are your all-time favorite movies and I just offended you somehow, I have something for you.

I did like The Dark Knight and cannot fathom HOW you can enjoy Xanadu. *smile* I did, though, enjoy Dune very much. Especially the Guildsmen.
Now, one movie I did like that gets low ratings is 13th Warrior. I just enjoy the whole thing. Enormously. Have you seen it?
Sandi´s last blog post..Wait…you mean we have to live through this?
Sandi – YES I saw 13th Warrior and liked it a lot. Xanadu is special to me; saw it in early 80′s when I was early teen and it shaped my love of music, wonderment, dreams. It didn’t hurt that Olivia Newton-John was elegantly beautiful.
I’m sorry you didn’t understand Dark Knight or Watchmen and couldn’t enjoy these masterpieces. Perhaps if you tried something a little less challenging… like an episode of Super Friends… you might be able to follow the story and enjoy it more.

Dave2 – WHASSSUP??!?!??!?!?!?!??! whasssupppppppp??!? True. True.
I got tired of Christian Bale’s voice too. But Heath Ledger? I enjoyed him. I didn’t care for the Watchmen either, even though I was looking forward to seeing it.
Dave is right. Try Super Friends….but then again, Astro Boy is coming out soon…!
metalmom – Jaden is pumped about AstroBoy. That means I am also.
@Dave2 I’m looking forward to the day that they greenlight a “WonderTwins” live-action movie. Starring Jake Gyllenhall and Naomi Watts. With Robert Duvall as Gleek the Space Monkey.
@whall I think I had a similar experience to you: I enjoyed watching a pretty cool film in IMAX. But it could have been one of many films in IMAX.

shiny – the movie title would be “Form of”
I really liked The Dark Knight and “whats-his-name-dead-guy’s” portrayal of The Joker, but it’s not one of my all-time-fav movies. I haven’t seen The Watchmen yet either. As for the bands you like, um, just say NO!
Geeky Tai-Tai´s last blog post..Road Trip
Geeky Tai-Tai – heh, I snickered when you said “bands” and nodded approvingly when you corrected yourself. But let me not mislead you; I am a huge Rush fan as well.
Sheesh! I’m an idiot! The other movies, when I saw Rush, it made me cringe. Sorry!
Geeky Tai-Tai´s last blog post..Road Trip
My husband said the exact same thing about Dark Knight.
Does this mean I’m married to a closet Abba fan?

Miss Britt – we can only hope for your sake.
I’m nothing special, in fact I’m a bit of a bore.
If I blog a post, you’ve probably read it before.
But I have a talent, some wonderful tricks
cause everyone snickers when I change lyrics
I’m so grateful and proud
All I want to do is you laugh out loud
I haven’t seen Watchmen, yet, but….
You confuse me.
Sybil Law´s last blog post..You betta (you better you better you bet)!
Sybil Law – what’s so confusing? That I can go from Abba to Ozzy?
I did like the Dark Knight but I kind of hated the Watchmen. And August Rush was a little too touchy feely for me.
amanda´s last blog post..It’s A Strange Condition
amanda – touchy feely has to be done just right for me. And August Rush did it for me.
You should read the book.
Avitable´s last blog post..Todave is an important dave.
Avitable – I’d read it if someone lent it to me. But I don’t feel like investing my own money in such a venture.
Xanadu…Xanaduuuuuuuuuu…. sorry I have Olivia Newton John’s voice stuck in my head. I had to do a “jazz” routine to that song when I was 10. The costume was cool. The film … not so much. The Man and The Boy both love Abba… alas.
Can’t comment on the films, although, I expect that with all the hype, I’d be disappointed. Although the Alamo Drafthouse sounds very cool.
Nat´s last blog post..Cheddar cheese
Nat – if you’re ever in Austin, MAKE THE TIME to go see a movie at Alamo.
I’ve still never seen Dune. Either version. But I have, and loved, the book.
kapgar´s last blog post..I am the hunter…
kapgar – The original movie is worth seeing. Great adaptation. The scifi miniseries? I didn’t make it all the way through the whole set but I might give it another try.
I didn’t care for The Dark Night. I haven’t seen The Watchmen, but I’ve heard mixed reviews. I liked Dune (As a movie, the books are so boring. I like science fiction but that series just didn’t do it for me.) and enjoyed Xanadu years ago but on rewatching it recently it didn’t do anything much for me.
I guess I haven’t seen the others.
marilyn´s last blog post..I know my ABCs
marilyn – I watch Xanadu about once a year and I don’t blame anyone who sees it first time as an adult and doesn’t care for it. It’s one of those quirky whall things.
With the exception of Heath Ledger, I hated Dark Knight. But I thought Watchmen was really good….dare I say, the best comic book adaptation movie to date. But I can see how some people might not like it (at least you’re not like the idiot highschool friend of my husband’s who bitched about the movie being “completely inappropriate for kids”…duh, you’d think the R rating would have clued her in).
But anyway, I love your title for this post.
Danalyn – heh, WHATwere they thinking? “It’s a comic book, therefore …” I know that a lot of people would be turned off by the graphic violence (a la 300, sin city). Only the desensitized masses can get through it and concentrate on the story.
Don’t feel bad. I didn’t think The Dark Knight was teh sheet either. A little overrated actually.
Kevin Spencer´s last blog post..Change We Need?
Kevin Spencer – “overrated”. That’s what I considered Dark Knight. It call comes down to Low Expectations being the key to happiness.
Besides the hot and heavy scenes watchman was a dud. It would have been more exciting if the blue man took his blue member and beat the crap out of people with it. At the very least use it for a choke hold, penetrate the comedian’s dark region and finish off with an exploision of the head..
Ming – is there a club we can join to be a member? Blue Man Group or something? (yes I’m dancing around the references)
you make me giggle.

i might have said something else, but this pg atmosphere prevented it.
