Nobody - that kind of makes sense - Home Premium is a much lesser version of Windows than Ultimate, right? I know they changed up the tiers from XP to Vista to W7, as well as the pricing structures. You should be able to use the Easy Transfer Wizard, though, to export your profile to an external drive or another computer, then install from scratch (maybe, depending on the version you bought), then import.

sue - I ended up explaining the problem and solution in the next blog post (I think). The gist of it was slow transfer speed to/from the external drive. This is something I can definitely attribute to Microsoft / Dell for not having a good driver ready for firewire. Once I switched to a different type of cable (USB), the transfer sped up and the migration only took about 90 minutes for the huge profile (which is a good thing).

140Gb profile is HUGE. MONSTER HUGE. I don't think I've had a profile over 20gb on any version of Windows.

I'm still running a Windows 7 RC instance under VMware Fusion on my Mac. So far, it's been pretty stable and takes a lot less resources than my Vista Enterprise instance does.

We are no where near ready to move past XP here at work. None of the machines we have can reasonably run Win 7 without needing some serious upgrades.

I love the you can upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. Oh, wait, no you can't. I had a clean install of Vista Ultimate and Win7 Home Premium refuses to do an upgrade. Other than that minor setback, I'm loving Win7! Need to install it on my laptop once I get around to buying it some more RAM.
