Sen. Barack Obama’s Floor Speech, March 20, 2006 -
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
Question of the day: what’s the point of a debt LIMIT if it can just be raised each time the people who spend our money want to spend more? Shouldn’t increasing the debt limit be put to a vote for all the taxpayers? Isn’t it our money?

I agree with you… on all three counts. Imagine if business ran that way. Oh wait, never mind, they’d just get a bailout.
Then maybe Mr. Obama needs to go back and research why he said that as a senator and evaluate why he’s saying something different today.
BTW, I’m taking a screenshot of this post and putting it into a time capsule, joining tweets about The Yes Tote Bag and DITL videos burned to DVD.
Haha- what Kapgar said!
well, first I’m not sure what exactly does it mean – debt limit? how exactly? second, I totally agree with you- we should vote for that!
thanks,

Yes, yes, I know I should. My problem is I can just tweet my thoughts. Maybe if I used my tweets as inspiration I’d get back into a habit. I do miss blogging.
