Welcome to The blog of whall

Come on in and stay a while… laugh a little. Maybe even think. Read more...

Hi, This is Wayne. This is my site, my stuff, my blog, blahblahblah. The site itself is powered by WordPress and the Scary Little theme. I thought it was cool, and I still do.

NO I CAN’T

As you may have heard by now from my Twitter accounts, yesterday’s update, and some comments…. my all-time-favorite-band-of-all-time YES postponed their show in Dallas last night.

The only good parts about it were A) I was told just before I got on the road yesterday afternoon.  It really would have sucked if I was already in the car driving up there, or had found out once I got to Dallas.  B) We had some severe weather in Austin, so I was able to be home with the family.  Nothing happened, but it was still a potential of tornados and high winds, and it’s just plain better that I was here.

Because of the postponement, if I had a working camera, I would’ve made a 3-minute DITL of me.  Just me.  Crying.  Crying over and over. WAHHHHH.

Good thing Jaden has my back.  He can do the crying for me.

You know what’s really weird?  I mean besides me using my son to gain electronic sympathy from the blogosphere.  I mean, Jaden was born in 2002.  However, the timestamp on this picture shows January 1st, 2001.  He looks to be about 3yrs old in this photo, and I’m wondering how the picture got the wrong time on it.  In fact, there’s a whole folder of photos from 2004 or 2005, and they all have the 2001 timestamp.  Weird.

To switch topics (slightly) I think I’m going to take a look at Chilly Willy‘s suggestion of a new camera (Olympus FE-20).  It looks like a great deal.  Thanks, Marty!  I’ll be back to making DITL’s in no time!

It seems this is the era of cancellations.  We’ve had our annual week-long coast trip to South Padre scheduled and rescheduled THREE TIMES since last summer, and we just got notification that it has to be canceled AGAIN.  Hurricane Dolly’s devastation on the island and some of the resorts is still to blame for some of the places not being ready to open.  Duran Duran’s appearances in San Antonio and Dallas were canceled in December last year (which my wife was looking forward to about as much as me seeing YES).

Well, I guess the bright side is – whenever they decide to reschedule, I should have a working camera!

HA! You thought I was gonna be all political and stuff today, likely in response to a few recent stimuli, like the Federal Nationwide Gun Registration Bill that Obama will surely let sail through, or Obama’s first Press Conference where he actually admitted “I am the Eternal” (I frequently find the first four words of a sentence tell enough of the story, don’t you?).

Oh, no.  You won’t see ME stoop to such tactics to get in cheap shots or jabs.  I’m not going to mention any of it!  I made myself a promise not to be so political on ye olde blog of whall and by gum, I’m gonna keep it!  I’ll keep my political voicings to my twitter account and the occasional redirective comment here or there.

Tonight, I get to see my all-time favorite band YES in concert in Dallas, TX at the House of Blues:

YES.  YES.  YES.

And the best part of it is — I get to do the Meet and Greet!  I actually get to go to a little after-show party, spend a little quality time with the band, meet them, and get a photo taken with them!  This is almost a dream come true!

The only “meh” part of the whole deal is that Jon Anderson is not touring with them at this time due to health reasons.  Jon – my thoughts and prayers are with you and your recovery!  Your music has meant so much to me for much of my life.

Maybe Jon’s absence is what made the Meet and Greet package so affordable.  The guy in the middle is some singer from a YES tribute band.  And the young guy in the back right is Rick Wakeman’s son, Oliver Wakeman.  So, while it’s not the ideal YES tour (Union and ABWH came very close to that), I’ll take what I can get before we all get too old to do anything about it.

Because I’m steering so clear of the political bent, I won’t even mention that some of the group performed on the Mike Huckabee show on FOX.

What a dream come true for that tribute band guy, eh?  I mean, I sing along with every single YES song there is, on every single album ever released.  I can even hit all the notes.  But if *I* were in a tribute band, and *I* was picked to go on tour with the ACTUAL BAND… man.  What a rush.

I can’t wait for tonight.  I hope everything goes well because today I heard that last night’s show in Houston was postponed due to a medical emergency.

So, enough about me and YES.  What do YOU think of me and YES?

Update: MAJOR BUMMER: I just got an email from TicketMaster:

Hello, this is Ticketmaster Customer Service with an important alert for your upcoming event. Yes scheduled at House of Blues Dallas on Tuesday February 10, 2009, at 7:00pm, has been postponed. The new date is to be announced.

I was just gonna get in the car to drive up to Dallas, too.  I guess that’s a good thing… I mean, I’d rather know before I head out, but still.  As I tweeted, I’m crying Tears of Topographic Oceans.
